Our Lenten Journey - 2010
Shawnee Park Christian Church Lent and Easter
Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, February 17, 2010 – 7 PM
Our Lenten journey begins on Wednesday, February 17 at 7 PM with an Ash
Wednesday Service. Please put this service on your calendar and plan to
attend. It's a wonderful opportunity to move towards a deeper level in
understanding Christ's journey to the Cross. This service will be led by
our musicians, include the imposition of ashes and conclude with the
celebration of communion.
Wednesday Reflection
Wednesdays, Feb. 17-Mar.
31, 2010 - 5:30 to 6:45 PM
Each Wednesday beginning February 17th and continuing through
Wednesday, March 31st, Lenten Suppers will be served in fellowship
hall. This will be a simple meal served from 5:30 to 6:45 preceding our
Lenten services, Prayer At The Heart. Cost will be by a simple donation.
At 7 PM we will gather for a short reflective
service called Prayer at the Heart. The service is designed to
last no longer than 30 minutes. It is simplistic in nature and is set in
the tradition of Taize¢.
Familiar choruses, scripture readings, prayer and communion will make up
the format of this service. Our hope is to find deeper spiritual
relationships, healing and peace in the midst the angst of Christ’s
suffering and crucifixion.
Easter
Cantata
Sunday, March 28, 2010 - 6 PM
The Chancel Choir will be presenting the Easter Cantata,
“There Stands A Cross” on Sunday, March 28 at 6 PM.
Maundy Thursday
Thursday, April 1, 2010
On Maundy Thursday, April 1st our Elders will lead
gatherings in members’ homes. It’s an opportunity for each of us to
experience the fellowship and the intimacy of the upper room. The
congregation will be asked to sign up and then gather at homes
throughout our community. The meal will be potluck with the host
providing some guidance for beverages and dinnerware. Each home will
share a meal as the disciples did; eating and sharing stories. At the
end of the meal, each gathering will participate in a common liturgy for
communion. It is very simple in manner, but the impact is great in
understanding why we partake in this common meal.
Good Friday
Friday, April 2, 2010
On Good Friday, April 2, we will begin our 24 Hour Prayer vigil
at noon. In the evening at 7 PM we will gather for worship and
remembrance of Christ’s crucifixion. The service will be led by
musicians and laity. Communion will not be served as this is the one
service in which we fully understand the gravity of Christ’s death.
Easter Sunday
Sunday, April 4, 2010
Our Risen Christ will be celebrated in two services on Easter
Sunday, April 4 at Shawnee Park Christian Church. The Chancel Choir
along with other musicians, our Pastor Dr. Bob Magee as well as laity
will lead in this service of Celebration and Resurrection.
